Tutorial 3 of 6
Speaker notes and the presenter view
Intermediate 6 min
Write notes under each slide, present on a projector from a second window and keep an eye on the timer.
Your notes belong next to the slides, not on paper. In Deckwright they are part of the Markdown and appear in the presenter view, in PowerPoint's notes pane and — collapsed — in the HTML file.
Write notes
At the end of a slide, add a line Notes: and write below it:
## This month
- Read chapters 1 to 6
- Bring one question
Notes:
Mention that the library closes at 9.
Everything after Notes: up to the next --- is a note. Below the preview you see Speaker notes for the current slide. Insert → Speaker notes adds the line for you.
Set the length of your talk
Open File → Presenter timer…, enter Talk length in minutes and press Save. With a length, the presenter view counts down and shows Over time in red when you run over. With 0 it only counts up.
Present with two screens
- Connect the projector and set your computer to extend the display (not mirror).
- Choose Present → Presenter view with notes and timer (
Shift+F5). - Press Open audience window. A second window opens with the slides only.
- Drag that window to the projector and press its Full screen button.
Back in the presenter view you see the current slide, the next slide, your notes and the timer. Use Next slide and Previous slide, the arrow keys or the space bar. The audience window follows every change. If your browser blocks the window, allow pop-ups for the site and press the button again.
Smaller notes and Bigger notes change the size of your notes. Pause timer and Reset timer do what they say.
Present on one screen
Choose Present → Present from this slide (F5). The slide fills the screen; arrow keys, space or a click move on, Esc ends the show.
Privacy
Notes stay in your deck file. Share links never contain them, and the Markdown-to-slides tool's Open in app link leaves them out too. If you send a PowerPoint file, delete the notes first if they are private.
